Just days after Vincenzo Montella had stated his desire to remain with La Viola, the club have now announced that they would be parting ways with the former Italian international. Montella had led Fiorentina to three fourth-place finishes in a row and had arguably stabilised a club that failed to establish an identity of sorts.
Nevertheless, Fiorentina felt as though, the needed trust was missing, as the club had been trying to extend Montella’s deal beyond 2017, but were subject to rather ambiguous behaviour from their manager who did not seem to be willing to commit. It is now believed that FC Basel manager Paulo Sousa is the leading candidate for the top post at Fiorentina, although many others are also available at this stage, as we had previously reported.
As for Montella, he now becomes part of Serie A’s manager carousel and at this stage, it is unclear as to whether he is in the running for any other positions. Intriguingly, Milan and Napoli have not yet found their respective managers for next season. As such, this will remain an interesting space to watch and we are sure that the Serie A will provide us with the required entertainment during the summer break.
