Today was a rather busy and eventful Tuesday and we became witness to some major announcements.
In Italy, as we had indicated in our previous reports, Juventus have finally announced the signing of Sami Khedira on a free transfer. The German international joins the Old Lady from Real Madrid, where he had been limited to a role on the bench in recent months. Despite his limited playing time, Khedira is still one of the world’s best defensive midfielders and it is incredible that Juve were able to add this level of quality free of charge.
Only days after winning the Champions League, Barcelona continue their days of happiness and have just announced Luis Enrique’s contract extension. The new deal will keep the former Barca player at the club until summer 2017. There had been some speculation surrounding Enrique’s future, some sources claiming that the manager was close to leaving the club. In addition to Enrique, the Blaugrana also managed to extend Dani Alves’ contract by another two years, despite announcing the signing of right-sided Spanish international Aleix Vidal from Sevilla yesterday.
West Ham United appointed Slaven Bilic as their new manager earlier today. The Croatian had managed Turkish club Besiktas since 2013 and failed to win any meaningful silverware during his time at the club. The former West Ham defender now returns to East London on a three-year contract and will be hoping to fare better than the parting Sam Allardyce.
