Thursday Transfer News

Transfers are almost synonymous with the summer, so we shall continue to report.

Starting in Germany, it sounds like Ilkay Gundogan might actually end up staying at Borussia Dortmund this year, as sport director Michael Zorc seems to choose increasingly softer tones when discussing the player’s future. Similarly, Dortmund have also told Matthias Ginter that he will not be joining Borussia Monchengladbach, although the young defender had previously expressed his desire to do so. In better news for Gladbach, they confirmed the signing of Josip Drmic from Leverkusen on a 4-year deal for €10 million. Leverkusen in turn, are believed to be interested in signing HSV defender Jonathan Tah, who spent the season at 2. Bundesliga outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf; a transfer fee of €8 million may trigger the deal. Stuttgart seem to have reacted to losing first-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich to Bayern Munich, by signing Polish shot-stopper Przemyslaw Tyton from PSV Eindhoven (spent last season on loan at Elche CF) for €1 million.

Manchester City continue to be keen on English players due to quota issues, and after increasing their bid for Raheem Sterling, they have now also reignited their well-documented interest in Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who might be craving some northern English air; City will have to part with at least another €30 million. Aston Villa have signed Micah Richards on a free transfer, after the former Manchester City defender parted ways with Fiorentina. Southampton have signed Portuguese right-back Cedric Soares for just under €5 million, which paves the way for Nathaniel Clyne’s departure to Liverpool for just over €16 million; this would be a great piece of business for both clubs. Leicester have sacked players Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson (son of manager Nigel Pearson), after the three were involved in a filmed incident with a Thai woman during the club’s tour of the country.

Barcelona seem intent on creating a ‘shirt issue’, as they are thought to be planning to cut short Denis Suarez’ loan spell at Sevilla, after the attacking midfielder impressed at the Europa League champions last season. In return, they are willing to loan talented Alen Halilovic to Sevilla. Real Madrid are believed to be officially interested in sought-after Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, whatever that might mean.

Paulo Sousa seems on his way to Fiorentina, after he agreed to cancel his contract with Swiss giants Basel. Kevin-Prince Boateng is still close to rejoining AC Milan and may remain ‘close’ for a longer while, with Roma allegedly interested also. Juventus are coming to terms with Carlos Tevez’ desire to return to Argentina by targeting Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic.

We will surely keep you posted on further developments.
