The transfer market has seen quite a bit of movement in the last few days, so below we summarise some of the most significant action.
In England, Liverpool continued their transfer activities by announcing the signing of talented English defender Joe Gomez from Championship side Charlton Athletic. The 18-year old cost the Anfield outfit around €4.9 million. Southampton have reacted to goalkeeper Fraser Forster’s long-term injury by signing former Netherlands No.1 Martin Stekelenburg on loan from Fulham. Irish winger James McClean has joined West Brom from Wigan for fee in the region of €2.1 million. Aston Villa right back Matthew Lowton left the club for Championship side Burnley for €1.4 million. West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has joined promoted side Norwich on a free transfer.
Mario Mandzukic has announced what many had expected all along and joined Champions League finalists Juventus for €19 million. Paulo Sousa was unsurprisingly announced Fiorentina manager after leaving Swiss side Basel. As expected, Geoffrey Kondogbia has signed for Inter, after a fee of €35 million was agreed with Monaco. Empoli midfielder Mirko Valdifiori has followed his manager Maurizio Sarri to join Napoli.
In Germany, 1.FC Koln have announced the signing of Hoffenheim striker Anthony Modeste, as well as the capture of Austrian international Philipp Hosiner on loan from Stade Rennes with an option to buy. After several loan spells away from the club, French winger Gael Kakuta has finally left Chelsea to join Europa League champions Sevilla on a free transfer.
