West Ham have just confirmed the signing of Italian international Angelo Ogbonna on a four-year contract from Italian Champions League runner-up Juventus. The fee is believed to be €12 million, which takes the Hammers’ summer transfer window spending to an ambitious €36 million.
The 27-year old Italian defender will be heading to London’s East End with the experience of 86 Serie A and four Champions League appearances. Strong in the air and technically gifted, Ogbonna will certainly strengthen West Ham’s back-line and is likely to form a strong partnership with Winston Reid in the heart of the Hammers’ defence.
West Ham had previously added the likes of French midfielder Dimitri Payet from Olympique Marseille and Spanish talent Pedro Obiang from Italian Serie A side Sampdoria. It seems as though the Hammers are heading for more glory and will be boosted by the prospect of further growth, once the club moves to the Olympic Stadium in the summer of 2016.
