Yesterday, Fabian Delph did, what many would describe as refreshing in today’s football world. The midfielder and England international released a statement reassuring Aston Villa fans that he will be staying at Villa park to continue to play for ‘this great football club’, despite media speculation linking him with an imminent move to Manchester City.
Last season, the club-captain made 28 league appearances and provided four assists in the process. The midfielder’s performances were impressive enough to earn him six England caps. The 25-year old former Leeds United player is certainly on the ascend, but it seems as though, he believes that moving to an arguably bigger club at this stage, might not be the most sensible choice.
Whatever the case might be, Delph should be commended for not following the call of fame and for not being blinded by what is on offer on the surface. The midfielder will now remain a key player at a club with a great history and will not have to be worried about a stalling career, like for example Jack Rodwell or Scott Sinclair, both of whom did great damage to their careers by moving to Manchester City at the wrong time.
