According to reports coming from Germany football news outlet Kicker, Bayern Munich have agreed a fee of €35 million with Italian Champions League finalists Juventus for the transfer of their Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. The player is believed to have agreed a five-year contract with Germany’s record champion and is expected to head to Munich in the next few days.
Vidal had been linked to Bayern before, when he left Bayer Leverkusen for Juventus in 2011. At the time, Leverkusen did not want one of their prized assets to join a league competitor and are believed to have pushed the midfielder towards a move to the Italian Serie A. Since his move to Juventus, Vidal has gone from strength to strength and has accumulated 124 league appearances with 35 goals to his name. During his time in Turin, Vidal helped the club to four Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and this year’s Champions League final, which was eventually lost to Spanish giants Barcelona.
Despite some injury concerns surrounding Vidal’s knees, the Chilean was able to make a total of 45 appearances for Juventus last season. The player comes with the reputation of knowing the Bundesliga and is understood to be incredibly keen to finally join one of his favourite clubs. Vidal has just helped his country win the latest edition of the Copa America and has been one of the country’s key layers in recent years.
At Bayern Munich, the 28-year old will help fill the gap left by Bastian Schweinsteiger, who recently joined English side Manchester United, by adding a certain degree of bite and aggressiveness to the record champion’s central midfield. Although Vidal will have to fight for a starting spot, with Bayern’s central midfield incredibly crowded, he offers manager Pep Guardiola a somewhat different option. Ultimately, he will be expected to complement the more technical midfielders with his rather forceful approach to the game.
After goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Douglas Costa, Arturo Vidal is set to become Bayern’s fourth new addition to the squad.
