Fantasy PL – Another 3 Newbies

Just before the closing of the summer transfer window, more players seem to be flooding into the Premier League. Last week, we looked at these three newcomers. This week, we pick three more players to look at in more detail.

Abdul Rahman Baba – Left-Back – 21 Years of Age – Chelsea – Fantasy Value: £6 Million

Ghana international Baba has seen his status rise to some significant effect over the last two years. Having been classed as one of the Bundesliga’s best players last season, the 21-year old made an incredible contribution to Augsburg’s strongest season in German football yet. Despite his young age, Baba Rahman joins current English champions Chelsea on the back of 51 Bundesliga and 24 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga respectively. Prior to joining Augsburg for €2.5 million in 2014, the defender had plied his tried at Southern German side Greuther Furth, with whom he got promoted to and played one season in the Bundesliga.

Baba Rahman is a defensively strong left-back who chips in the odd assist or two. In 80 senior appearances across his career, the youngster has only ever scored two goals, although the likes of Gary Neville might find that admirable. At Chelsea, the defender is likely to become a back-up to the likes of Azpilicueta and Ivanovic, although Chelsea’s recent dip in form might require the former’s shift to the right, which would ultimately give Baba Rahman the opportunity to become a regular starter. At £6 million, this might be a gamble one should certainly consider. Here is a look at the Ghana international’s skills.

Adama Traore – Winger – 19 Years of Age – Aston Villa – Fantasy Value: £6 Million

Aston Villa paid a rather impressive £7 million for the services of a 19-year old who is yet to secure a first-team appearance longer than ten minutes. However, this is a player who was educated at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy and managed to show his qualities in the club’s second team where he provided 18 assists and scored eight goals in 63 games.

Despite the youngster’s lack of experience, Traore provides quality that is arguably rare at Aston Villa. The winger benefits from great feet and some incredible dribbling skills, as can be seen here. Traore will certainly play some games, or might even become a regular, given that Villa need an edge in attack. If the youngster’s age is a potentially negative factor, it might be worth considering Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu’s first Premier League season as a 19-year old, after initially leaving Barcelona on loan. That was an impressive campaign for the young Spaniard; this might be an impressive campaign for yet another Barca product. Also available at £6 million, the gamble is somewhat insignificant.

Serge Gnabry – Midfielder – 20 Years of Age – West Bromwich Albion – Fantasy Value: £5 Million

Gnabry is probably the most well-known player on today’s list, as he already has ten Premier League appearances to his name. With limited opportunities in Arsenal’s midfield, the young German was loaned out to West Brom this season, in order to accumulate some important game-time. Due to fitness-related reasons, that has not happened yet, but Gnabry is not too far from his first appearance in Tony Pulis’ team.

Similar to Traore at Villa, Gnabry actually provides a different option in midfield and can operate on either wing, as well as in the centre. As such, the 20-year old will be an added bonus to West Brom’s strike force that will ultimately benefit from Gnabry’s eye for a good pass and his ability to take on opponents to free up space for teammates. Here is a look at the youngster’s performances so far. At £5 million, Gnabry is the cheapest of our three options, but might be the one with the most playing time and thus, the biggest potential for points.
